Sydnee Schorr named Pitcher of the Week by The Sun Conference

For the week ending March 26 Sydney Schorr, a freshman from Easton, Md., picked up a pair of victories. She went 2-0 with one complete game shutout.  Combining both games Schorr Schorr did not allow a run, gave up a total of 3 hits, walked no one, and struck out 16 batters.  Opponents had a .077 batting average against her and she had an 0.00 earned run average.

Sydnee, vey impressive!!! Way to go!!!

Bees Split Double-Header With Midland University 8-2, 2-4

 

They say that all good things must come to an end.  However, in the case of the SCAD Bees Women's Softball Team it was a fantastic run that seemed likely to continue.  The Midland University Warriors brought to an end a SCAD run of 15 victories without a defeat by edging the Bees 4-2 in the second game of today's double-header.

The winning streak was a fine accomplishment.  No, it was a great accomplishment!  Our congratulations go to the ladies for giving us some fantastic play.  But let us not focus on the loss.  There is a strong possibility that we have not heard the last of their great moments.

Game 1: SCAD vs Midland University 

With Olivia Kline on the mound at 4-0 it looked good that SCAD would continue their 14 game win streak.  SCAD was the home team for the first game and they did not diappoint in their half of the first inning.



Nirana Singh got things off to a good start with a single and a stolen base.  Kylie Rash followed up with an RBI hit.  Jessaca Spears knocked in Rash with a single and promptly stole second.  Olivia Kline had an RBI hit and Sarah Halliwell finished the scoring with an RBI double.

SCAD scored once more in their second.  Another Spears single and stolen base was followed by a Brittany Gonzales RBI single.  Score after two innings - SCAD 6, Midland 0.

SCAD added two more in the 5th when Kayla Myles reached on a Warrior error, and Taylor Thomas and Spears each had RBI singles.  The two runs gave the Bees a lead of 8 after five innings so the game was called.  This was the third game in a row that SCAD won on the 8-run rule after five.  SCAD extended their consecutive win streak to 15 without a loss.

Olivia Kline's final pitching line was 0 runs, 5 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts.  Her record: 5-0.


Game 2: SCAD vs Midland University 

SCAD went down in order in the top of the first - a rare event.

In the Midand half of the inning a single, stolen base, and  a SCAD error accounted for two unearned Warrior runs.  Warriors took a 2-0 lead.

In the Midland third inning two consecutive singles and 2 more Bees' errors gave the Warriors two more unearned runs.  The score after three innings, Midland 4, SCAD 0.

The score remained 4-0 until the SCAD 7th.  Gonzales led off the inning with a single.  The next two hitters made outs.  Taylor Thomas then walked.  With two on and two outs Halliwell came to the plate and promply doubled to knock in Gonzales and Thomas.  The tying run came to the plate.  But it was then that the Bees tasted defeat for the first time this season.  The next SCAD hitter struck out.    Final Score, Midland 4, Bees 2.

SCAD pitcher Sam White deserved a better fate.  Her pitching line was a complete 7-inning game, 4 hits, 4 runs, none earned, 2 walks, and 9 strikeouts.  White's record - 3-1.  Jessaca Spears and Brittany Gonzales had two good games as they combined for 8 of the 16 hits SCAD had, as well as 5 of the RBI's.

SCAD Softball Sweeps Nebraska Wesleyan 10-2, 10-2

The latest recipients of SCAD's remarkable season was Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves.  The double-header was won by SCAD, 10-2 and 10-2.  Each game went 5 innings due to the 8-run rule after five (SCAD had an 8-run lead after the opponents had 5 full innings to score).

Game 1: SCAD vs. Nebraska Wesleyan University

Being the visitors in the first game in the tournament at Hancock Field in Clermont, Florida, SCAD wasted no time in getting on the board.  Kylie Rash opened with a single and stole second base,  Jessaca Spears followed with a single.  Brittany Gonzales knocked in Rash with a double.  Ross plated two more runs with a stroke to right field.  Three runs in all crossed the plate.

The Prairie Wolves, however, did not lay down.  A walk, a stolen base, an error, a walk, an illegal pitch, and a passed ball allowed two runs to score.  At the end of one inning, SCAD 3, NWU 2.

In the third with a 1-run lead, the Bees had a huge inning to put the game out of reach.  Olivia Kline singled - Ross singled, Alexis Castillo-Snyder singled - Sarah Halliwell singled - Kayla Myles walked = Erica Garcia had a big 3-run double - Rash singled - and Spears knocked in the 6th and final run of the inning with a ground out.

SCAD added one more run in their fourth, but it was icing on the cake.  Final score SCAD 10-2.

Sydnee Schorr picked up her team best fifth win - this time in relief.


Game 2: SCAD vs. Nebraska Wesleyan University

Once more SCAD jumped out early.  In their first inning Nirana Singh started off with a single and stole second.  Spears followed wih a hit and both she and Singh stole an extra base.  Kline reached on an error and Ross had a big 2-run double.  Garcia ended the scoring by knocking in the third run with a single.

Once again the Prairie Wolves bounced back.  In their third they pushed across two runs on four hits and a hit-by-pitch.  But SCAD countered in their half of the third by scoring two more runs  Score after three innings, SCAD 5, NWU 2.

Scoring one more in the fourth gave the Bees a comfortable 4-run lead, but they were not through.  In the home half of what would prove to be the last inning played in the game, the Bees really poured it on.  After Garcia and Kiara Boccia reached on NWU errors, Brian Mateo reached on a fielder's choice and Singh followed with a sacrifice fly.  Rash walked - Spears reached on another error - Halliwell hit a sacrifice fly and Ross concluded the scoring parade with an RBI double.  Four runs scored.  The game was called because of the 8-run rule after five.  Final score, SCAD 10, NWU 2.

Kiara Boccia picked up her third win in the season.

Erica Garcia and Krista Ross had a big RBI day.  Together they knocked in 9 of the 20 runs SCAD scored in the double-header.  Garcia had 4.  Ross had 5.

SCAD is 12-0 and going strong!!!

SCAD Softball is doing great. Great pitching, strong hitting and solid fielding is helping Bees to get awesome results on the fields. Girls are enjoying every inning, every game and they celebrate every win...and that is what college softball is about. Play strong, have fun and WIN!!! WIN, WIN and WIN!!!

More wins!!!

SCAD Softball continues to roll.  It has now reached 12 games in a row without a defeat.  The Bees have gone beyond winning.  They are now charting territory that has never been traveled.  It is not the victories, but how they have won.  Pitching has become the common theme among SCAD's victorious run.

SCAD's numbers are: 12-0 overall record, 3-0 in the conference.  But in the last four games, SCAD's pitching has notched a 1-hitter, a 1-hitter, a 3-hitter, and a 1-hitter.  It does not get much better than that.

SCAD vs Indiana Tech

It was a pitching duel from the first inning to the 4th.  No one could push across a run.  In the top of the 4th SCAD drew first blood.  Kylie Rash singled, she stole second and third, Jessaca Spears singled, she stole second, Olivia Kline singled, and then IT had two passed balls.  The result was two runs on three hits.  Bees 2, Warriors 0.

In the IT half of the 4th they put a runner on first via a base on balls from SCAD pitcher Olivia Kline.  The next hitter connected for a double and the lead was cut in half.  Bees 2, Warriors 1.

Olivia Kline held continued to pitch strong with a 1-run lead.  SCAD gave her a little cushion in their half of the 7th.  Kline started off the inning by reaching on an IT error.  Krista Ross singled.  Halliwell sacrificed.  Kiara Boccia hit a sacrifice fly plating SCAD's third run.  And Kayla Miles finished the scoring by singling in the Bees' 4th run.

Kline's final line was a complete game victory, 1 run, 3-hits, 7 strikeouts,  2 BB, and a 3-0 record.

SCAD vs. Mt. Vernon Nazarene

SCAD's second game was against the Cougars of Mt. Vernon Nazarene University.  Once again it looked as if the pitchers were going to decide the game.  However, it was only half correct (one pitcher would rise to a new level).  The score was 1-0 in favor of SCAD going into the fifth inning.  SCAD's lone run to this point came as a result of a Jessace Spears triple and an RBI single by Brittany Gonzalez in the first inning.

At this time no one knew that that lone run would have been enough - Sydnee Schorr was on the mound.  But it was a relief to the Bees to put together an inning that would put the game far out of reach.  A hit-by-pitch (Singh), a single by Rash, a double-steal, a Spears walk, a Gonzalez single, and to cap it all off, a grand slam homerun by Olivia Kline.  SCAD added one more in their 7th so going into the last half of the 7th the score was SCAD 7, Cougars 0.

We could speak of offensive superlatives - Kline 2-3, HR, 4 RBIs; Rash 2-4, 1R; Gonzalez 2-3, 1R, 2 RBIs; and Alexis Castillo-Snyder 2-2, 1R.  However, the real story for the day was Sydnee Schorr.

Her line at the end of the day was a complete game, 7 innings of 1-hit, 0 runs, 10 srikeouts, and no walks.  Another remarkable achievement for Schorr was that she only faced 2 players over the minimum.  In other words, she had 6 innings where it was 3-up and 3-down.  WOW!!  Her record now is at 4-0.
